The MITCH TRH™ System is a total hip femoral head resurfacing system manufactured by Finsbury exclusively for Stryker®.

Bearing

The MITCH TRH™ bearing is a high precision ‘as cast’ high carbon cobalt chrome bearing based on over ten years of clinical experience. Advances in manufacturing technology means that the tolerances are able to be more tightly controlled than with older products

Manufacturing

The MITCH TRH™ implants are manufactured by Finsbury Orthopaedics. Finsbury is one of the most experienced manufacturer of metal on metal hip resurfacing components. The combination of Finsbury Orthopaedic’s experience in hip resurfacing and Stryker’s proven track record of fixation developments have led to the production of the latest generation resurfacing system: MITCH TRH™ Cementing Technique The MITCH TRH™ Resurfacing head is designed to have a thin, continuous cement mantle around the head to give complete fixation. Too thick a cement mantle can lead to oversizing of the acetabulum, too thin a mantle and it can become discontinuous and reduce load transfer. The MITCH TRH™ resurfacing head therefore has an internal 2° conical taper and uses a low viscosity cementing technique.

MITCH TRH Resurfacing Design

Designed to reduce distal loading and improve epiphyseal fixation and thereby potentially reduce the incidence of neck thinning which is being seen clinically with contemporary designs with longer, thicker stems

Acetabular Fixation

The MITCH TRH™ Cup has a plasma sprayed rough titanium layer and then a plasma sprayed hydroxylapatite coating. These are low temperature processes which do not affect the metallurgy. This combination of materials has also been thoroughly tested to ensure there is no corrosion potential. The combination of titanium and HA as a bone ingrowth surface is ideal as titanium is more biocompatible than cobalt chrome and HA promotes faster bone on-growth.

In contrast to older designs however, the MITCH TRH™ cup features a variable offset bore which increases the amount of head coverage in the smaller sizes in particular and therefore reduces the chance of rim loading and elevated wear.

Implant Options

The MITCH TRH™ system is fully colour coded to improve ease of use and comprises 11 sizes of acetabular component from 44mm to 64mm in 2 mm increments. Each cup has a dedicated resurfacing head. The MITCH TRH™ system also features V40™ Modular heads which are available in 4 offsets.
